The Heinrich Manoeuver

Gary Barwin, one of my favourite experimental poets, has posted a neat little game on this new blog of his. Gary wrote a line-by-line response to a Heinrich Heine poem, then sent it out to a number of poet friends, of all stripes, with the instructions to consider his reaction a first draft, and proceed to write a second. Some interesting results followed. Some people expanded on the original, some people cut and slashed. My reaction, as it tends to be, was somewhere in the middle of all this. You can see Gary’s original piece here, my reaction here, and everyone else’s here. I’m sure Gary would love it if people sent new drafts of their own, as well.
